Founded in Chosun dynasty (9th year of King Hyo-jong, 1658), Daegu Yangnyeongsi is one of the three Korean traditional medicine ingredient markets in Korea. A name brand that represents Korean traditional medicine, Yangnyeongsi is an international hub of commerce for traditional medicine ingredients and has provided ingredients not only to the people of Korea, but also to those of China, Russia and Europe for several centuries. In an attempt to preserve, succeed to, and advance Yangnyeongsi’s culture of Korean traditional medicine, and to establish Daegu Yangnyeongsi as the birthplace of traditional medicine ingredient distribution, “Permanent Exhibition of Oriental Medicine” was opened on the second floor of National Federation of Fisheries Cooperatives Namdaegu branch, located at the Yakjeon (Pharmacopoeia) Alley in September 25th, 1985. We at Daegu Yangnyeongsi Museum of Oriental Medicine plan to establish the Museum as a cultural and tourism leader in Korean traditional medicine by providing exhibitions and education programs that allow visitors hands-on learning opportunities of the life of the Yangnyeongsi people in the past.
