Hallyu tourism video contest to feature attractions of Daegu and Gyeongsangbuk-do

Open to university students in Korea from September 5 through October 4, 2022

Daegu Metropolitan City and the Daegu Tourism Organization (DTO) announced that they will be conducting the Daegu/Gyeongbuk Hallyu Tour Course Video Contest for the purpose of finding lesser-known Hallyu tourism sites in the Daegu/Gyeongsangbuk-do region and to promote the latter as a lucrative and satisfying destination for tourists who visit Korea to experience Hallyu. The contest will be held for one month, starting on September 5, and can be participated in any university student currently living in Korea.

Participants must, as of September 5, be enrolled at a university or two-year college (currently attending or on leave of absence) in Korea. Submissions may be made individually or as a group. All nationalities are welcome.

Additional points will be given to students who are majoring in a tourism-related department of a university in Daegu or Gyeongsangbuk-do.

Submissions may be on any aspect of Hallyu in the Daegu/Gyeongbuk region, including (but not limited to) food, people/celebrities, K-pop, filming locations for dramas or movies, and shopping destinations. The only requirement is that the subject matter be portrayed in the format of a video-filmed tour course.

There are two submission categories: V-log (length: under five minutes) and Short Form (length: 10~60 seconds). Submissions should first be uploaded to the applicant’s YouTube account, after which it should be submitted via Naver Form (

Submissions will be evaluated by a panel of experts and featured in an online popularity vote. A total of 15 winners will be selected based on the outcomes of both (expert evaluation and online vote).

Prizes and prize money will be given as follows: one Grand Prize (KRW 1.5 million), Excellence Prize (one submission per component; KRW 1 million per submission), Congratulatory Prize (one submission per component; KRW 500,000 per submission), and Participation Prize (10 submissions; one certificate and KRW 100,000 per submission).

After the award ceremony, the DTO will be working with a Daegu-based travel agency to use winning videos to develop and test out Hallyu tourism products that are tailored to Daegu. Winning videos will also be distributed online through various channels in conjunction with professionally-designed PR videos on tourism products.

CEO Park Sang-chul of the DTO said, “The purpose of this contest is to give university students, the leaders of the future of Daegu/Gyeongbuk tourism, the opportunity to experience the tourism industry. It also aims to promote the lesser-known yet potential-rich tourism resources located all over southwestern Korea that are depicted in their submissions. I hope that the Daegu/Gyeongbuk Hallyu Tour Course Video Contest receives a lot of submissions and attention throughout Korea.”
