People’s passion for enjoying and sharing such enjoyment of music is an unstoppable force—even by the COVID-19 pandemic. The World Orchestra Series (WOS) 2022, a global celebration of music by world-class orchestras, will be held for 33 days from October 11 (Tue) through November 12 (Sat) at Daegu Concert House. The festival, which is hosted by Daegu Concert House (Kim Hyeong-guk, director of Daegu Arts Center) and supervised by the World Orchestra Series Organizing Committee (president: Jang Ik-hyeon), will feature 10 performing groups, including the London Symphony Orchestra, Europa Galante, Chamber Orchestra of Europe, and the Daegu Symphony Orchestra. Tickets sales will begin on Wednesday September 7 (14:00, Korea Standard Time) via Daegu Concert House’s official website and Ticket Interpark Ticket.
The WOS, which is in its ninth run this year, contributed greatly to the advancement of culture and the arts as well as the cultural performance community in Daegu, a UNESCO City of Music, throughout the COVID-19 pandemic through diverse performance formats. The 2022 edition of the WOS, Daegu’s only culture/arts event dedicated to symphonic music, will be showcasing prominent foreign orchestras to boost offline attendance figures—which were brought to an all-time low by COVID-19-related social distancing measures—and comprised of high-quality performances that have something to offer for all classical music fans.
The 10 performances of this year’s WOS will be given by three top-tier foreign orchestras, two of Korea’s most acclaimed symphony orchestras, three youth orchestras, one special orchestra, and the WOS Virtuoso Chamber. The breadth of musical spectrum (and sound) is expected to wow audiences with the unique experience that is to be had by hearing classical music performed in person. Powerful performances by renowned solo instrumentalists, including Cho Seong-Jin, Kim Sunwook, and Fabio Biondi, will be captivating listeners regardless of their level of familiarity with classical music.
