( T. 120)

Games held at Sanghwa Dongsan by Suseongmot Lake from July 14 (Thurs) to 17 (Sun)

After a three-year hiatus, the Women’s Beach Volleyball FIVB Future Pro Tour 2022 is scheduled to be held from July 14 (Thurs) to 17 (Sun) at Sanghwa Dongsan by Suseongmot Lake in Daegu, the city of freedom and vitality. The Pro Tour in Daegu are organized by the Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) and overseen by the Korea Beach Volleyball Federation.

A total of 16 teams from nine countries, including the United States, United Kingdom, Switzerland, Sweden, Japan, Thailand, and South Korea, which has players such as Shin Jieun. Baek Chaerim, Lee Hobin and Park-Ha Yeseul, will be participating in the FIVB’s official event. In 2015, Daegu became the first inland city in South Korea to host the beach volleyball events, which was praised as a success that broke the stereotype that beach volleyball matches can only be held in coastal areas.

Since 2016, the matches were held at nights in consideration of the sweltering midsummer heat in the city and were received with praise by Daegu citizens. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the last matches were held in 2019. And this year, the event will resume for the first time in three years.

The four-day competitions will start on July 14 (Thurs), and more than half of all matches will be held at night. The Pro Tour events will allow participating teams to earn points to enter the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

Along with the events, a wealth of entertainment will be provided for the spectators through side events such as the Beach Youth Flea Market, beer festival, and food trucks. The opening match, semifinals, and the finals will be aired simultaneously in South Korea and over 150 countries around the world and also through the FIVB website.

"This tournament, held for the first time in three years due to the pandemic, will provide a great opportunity for the people to watch quality beach volleyball matches from up close,” remarked Park Hee-jun, Director General of Daegu’s Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau. “I hope everyone can enjoy the cool and refreshing beach volleyball games in Powerful Daegu, the city of freedom and vitality.”

The event schedule is based on the 2019 event schedule and may be subject to change depending on the results of the players’ PCR tests (taken on July 12, Tues).
