Daegu offers an event for foreign visitors using a mobile pay service to vitalize shopping tourism
The Daegu Metropolitan City and the Daegu Tourism Organization is hosting an event for foreign visitors using a mobile pay service.
This event, which allows foreigners visiting Daegu to enjoy a safer and easier shopping experience alongside South Korea’s “Living with COVID” policy, will be held from December 13 to 26. Visitors who upload their mobile pay receipt will have a chance to win a gift certificate.
A mobile pay service refers to a simple payment system that uses an electronic payment system app (APP) instead of a physical payment method such as cash or credit card. The use of mobile pay services is rapidly increasing worldwide, and in particular, Chinese tourists spend an average of USD 367 per person through a mobile pay service when traveling abroad.
In consideration of this, Daegu and the Daegu Tourism Organization created an environment to accommodate global mobile payment services, including WeChat Pay, Alipay, and PayPal, in major shopping stores in Daegu to encourage foreign tourists to visit.
Park Sang-cheol, the chairman of the Daegu Tourism Organization, remarked, “We are making a lot of preparations for to make shopping tourism more convenient in the era of smart tourism.” He added, “I hope that through this event, Daegu’s preparations for shopping tourism can be further promoted overseas.”
