New slogan visualizes growth through a clean typeface and upward-pointing symbol

Daegu Metropolitan City (DMC) recently unveiled the official design for its new municipal slogan, “Change and Growth: A Better Tomorrow,” introduced with the launch of the ninth popularly elected municipal administration. The design will be gradually applied across all areas of municipal administration.

The new slogan reflects DMC’s belief that only fundamental change beyond existing frameworks and conventions can serve as the starting point for reawakening the city’s full potential. It also embodies the administration’s governing philosophy that such change will lead to growth in the city’s competitiveness, economy, employment and citizens’ quality of life, ultimately creating a better tomorrow for Daegu.

The design embodies the city’s commitment to delivering results rather than promises through its use of colors, symbols and typography.

The typeface was designed with a focus on simplicity, free of unnecessary ornamentation, to convey both stability and forward momentum. It also ensures consistent readability across a wide range of media, reflecting DMC’s commitment to practical administration that steadily advances policies based on trust with citizens.

The strokes of the typeface and the upward-pointing symbol visually express forward movement. They represent DMC’s vision of continuously strengthening the city’s economy and urban competitiveness through change and growth. The star symbol represents both the starting point of this journey and the destination where its achievements shine. It encapsulates the bright future that Daegu aims to create through change and growth, ultimately leading to tangible improvements that citizens can experience.

Two versions of the slogan design have been developed. The basic version features an upward-pointing symbol with a gradient that blends a trustworthy blue with a vibrant red, symbolizing the spread of change throughout the city and its positive impact on citizens’ lives. The simplified version does not include the symbol, but uses the text colors alone to convey the slogan’s meaning, with “Change and Growth” presented in a vibrant red and “A Better Tomorrow” in a trustworthy blue.

DMC will gradually apply the new slogan design to its website, public banners, government employee business cards, official documents and other areas of municipal administration.

It communicates, in an easy-to-understand way, the governing philosophy of the ninth popularly elected municipal administration embodied in ‘Change and Growth: A Better Tomorrow.’ We will swiftly pursue our five policy goals—economic transformation for the future, cultural prosperity for all, transforming urban spaces, enhanced safety and welfare, and citizen-centered administration—to deliver tangible change and growth that our citizens can truly experience.”
