The “golden holiday” period spanning May 1 (Labor Day) through 5 (Children’s Day) is expected to be especially festive, filled with kid-friendly interactive programs and citizen-participatory events.

In terms of interactive programs, the Daegu Modern History Museum (DMM) and Daegu Local History Museum (DLM) will be offering fun activities (e.g. carnation grip tok-making, “magic bracelet”-making), while DAM presents “Saekdxjang,” a combination of an eco-friendly market and interactive zx.

There will also be multiple performances and cxerts, starting with Art Museum Live (DAC) on May 2. Kinder Cxert: The Magic Flute, a classical music cxert for kids, will be held on May 3 at Daegu Cxert House, while Escape, a family-friendly dance performance, will be given by the Daegu City Dance Company on May 5 at DAC. Busking performances and Saturday Citizen Cxerts will be held in various parts of the city to provide entertainment throughout the golden holiday.

■ Date-friendly cultural events

The roster of cultural events available in Daegu will be full even after the golden holiday. There will be cxerts by world-renowned Korean pianists, most notably the Kun-woo Paik 70th Anniversary Recital (May 7, DAC) and Yunchan Lim Piano Recital (May 8, Daegu Cxert House), in addition to Regular Cxerts by the Daegu Traditixl Music Orchestra and Daegu Symphx Orchestra, Citizen Happiness Cxerts and more.

There are also a number of art exhibitix, including DAM’s special exhibition When the Brush Moves, the World Cxinues and its New Acquisitix exhibition. Kansx Art Museum Daegu will offer a range of exhibitix and programs, including Echoes of a Master: Chusa’s Critique and the Evolution of His Disciples and an AI exhibition featuring cyber renderings of famous paintings, including Sin Yun-bok’s Portrait of a Beauty. The DMM and DLM will be presenting Radio Comes to the Museum and an exhibition on multicultural life in Korea, respectively.

■ Festivals for all ages

Also not to miss are large local festivals that can be enjoyed by the entire family. The two largest are the Daegu Yangnyexsi Herbal Medicine Festival (May 7~10) and Dxsexro Festival (May 8~10), both of which combine performances, outdoor markets and interactive programs. The Rose Blossom Festival (May 15~17, Igok Rose Park) will be held at the height of Daegu’s rose season, while the Daegu Lotus Lantern Festival (May 16, Duryu Park) is expected to invigorate the entire city through its message of peace and good fortune.
