Tape cutting ceremony to be held on Dec. 13 at Seodaegu Station Plaza
Daegu Metropolitan City (DMC) announced that it will be hosting a tape cutting ceremony for the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Line, an inter-city rail line, on Dec. 13 (Fri) at Seodaegu Station Plaza. Regular operation of the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Line will begin on Dec. 14 (Sat).

The Daegu-Gyeongbuk Line is the first metropolitan (inter-city) rail line outside Seoul/Gyeonggi-do that, once opened, will allow Daegu and Gyeongsangbuk-do’s 3.5 million residents the same benefits enjoyed by those of Seoul and Gyeonggi-do.
The first train will leave Dongdaegu Station on Dec. 14 (Sat) at 05:25 headed for Gumi Station. Of the seven stations along the route, passengers can transfer at two of them (Dongdaegu Station, Daegu Station) to Daegu Metro’s Line 1.
The Daegu-Gyeongbuk Line will be operated by KORAIL, a national railway operator. Electric trains (each comprised of two cars) will pass through Gumi, Chilgok, Daegu and Gyeongsan in under 60 minutes, with up to 100 round-trips per day (Monday-Friday).
Base fare will be KRW 1,500 (to be paid via transportation card), similar to other modes of public transportation. Discounts will be provided for certain groups (e.g. seniors, individuals with disabilities) and for transfers from intra-city buses or Daegu Metro (50%).
The new rail line is expected to be easy and convenient to use for residents of Daegu, Gyeongsan, Chilgok and Gumi. The improved proximity to Daegu from nearby cities will create a zone for livelihood/commerce that is expected, in turn, to expedite the partnered growth of Daegu and Gyeongsangbuk-do.
After the tape cutting, an MOU signing ceremony will be held for the efficient and speedy construction of a new station for the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Line (Wondae Station). The MOU will be signed by Mayor Hong Joon-pyo, Chairman Lee Seong Hai of the Korea National Railway, and President Han Moon Hee of KORAIL.

Mayor Hong said, “The Daegu-Gyeongbuk Line will make Daegu an accessible metropolitan center by linking Daegu with various cities in Gyeongsangbuk-do. We will do everything in terms of operation and management to not only ensure livelihood amenities for residents but also contribute to local economic development.”
