Korean language programs
A basic Korean language course to help marriage immigrants better adapt to Korean society and culture
Korean language courses
- Period: March 2016 to December 2016
- Operator : eight gu (district) and gun (county)
- Eligibility: marriage immigrants and their children
- Cost: free of charge
- Course types: regular course (four steps), courses for children born in foreign countries, intensive courses
- Instruction materials
- Regular course (basic Korean language and cultural education for marriage immigrants—operated by the Ministry of Justice and the National Institute of Korean Language)
- Course for children born in foreign countries (basic, intermediate, and advanced levels of Standard Korean)
- Intensive course (textbook selected by course operators)

Article 4, Daegu Metropolitan City Foreign Residents and Multicultural Families Support Ordinance
Purpose
Marriage immigrants are offered an opportunity to continue their education so that they can address any issues that arise in their child’s education, integrate themselves more easily into society, and gain employment and support themselves financially.
Content
- Eligibility: female marriage immigrants or their children who have obtained at least a high school diploma
- Universities: Korean National Open University (KNOU) (all departments) (since 2010), Daegu Haany University (Department of Multicultural Welfare and Korean Language)(since 2015)
Grants
- KNOU: tuition fees, textbooks, and scholarships (etc.) up to KRW 500,000 per semester
- Daegu Haany University: tuition fees up to KRW 1,500,000 per semester (support provided 50/50 by the city and the university)
Application and selection procedure
- KNOU: review of documents → recommendations by the heads of multicultural family support centers → selection of 20 recipients → provision of grants
- Daegu Haany University: recommendations by the heads of multicultural family support centers → review of documents and interviews → selection of 20 recipients → provision of grants
