How to use an automated external defibrillator (AED)
-
1Arrival of AED

- If an AED arrives while performing CPR, apply it without delay.
-
2Power on

- Place the AED in a position that will not interfere with CPR and press the power button.
-
3Attach the two pads

- Pad 1: Just below the right collarbone
- Pad 2: In the armpit in front of the left nipple
If the pads and the defibrillator body are separate, connect them.
-
4Analyze the heart rhythm

- When you hear the voice prompt "Analyzing...", stop CPR and remove your hands from the patient.
- If defibrillation is required, the AED will start charging itself to the set energy along with the voice prompt "Defibrillation required."
- If defibrillation is not required, the AED will say "Defibrillation not required." If so, resume CPR immediately.
-
5Defibrillate

- The defibrillation button will start flashing only when defibrillation is required. When it flashes, press the defibrillation button to perform defibrillation.
※ Note: Before pressing the defibrillation button, make sure that everyone is away from the patient so they do not get the electric jolt.
-
6Resume CPR immediately

- After defibrillation, immediately resume CPR with a 30:2 chest compression to artificial respiration ratio.
-
7Repeat after analyzing the heart rhythm every 2 minutes

- Analyze the heart rhythm and repeat every 2 minutes until the patient recovers or until the 119 rescue team arrives.
