CPR for adults
-
1Confirm cardiac arrest and call 119 (request an AED)

- Gently tap the person on the shoulder and ask, “Are you okay?”
- Loudly ask someone nearby to call 119 and request an AED. If no one is nearby, call 119 yourself.
-
2Compression position

- Place the center of the heel of your hand on the center of the patient’s chest between both nipples, making sure your fingers do not touch the patient’s ribs.
- Cover your hand with your other hand.
-
3Compressions

- Extend your arms and press the patient's chest vertically at a rate of at least 100 times per minute and a depth of at least 5 cm, then release the pressure.
-
4Perform chest compression 30 times

- Compress the chest 30 times at a rate of at least 100 times per minute.
Do not remove either hand from the patient's chest during chest compressions.
※ Perform the compressions while counting from one to thirty, and allow the compressed chest to return to its original position completely.
- Compress the chest 30 times at a rate of at least 100 times per minute.
-
5Maintain the airway

- Tilt the patient’s head back and lift the patient’s chin up to open the airway.
-
6Perform artificial respiration twice

- Close the patient's nose and blow into the mouth twice.
If air has entered the airway of the patient, the patient's chest will rise.
※ If the rescuer does not know or is not skilled in artificial respiration, continuously perform chest compressions only (chest compression resuscitation) without artificial respiration.
- Close the patient's nose and blow into the mouth twice.
-
7Repeat chest compressions and artificial respiration

- Repeat 30 chest compressions and 2 artificial respirations until the 119 rescue team arrives.
- If there are two rescuers, one person performs chest compressions and the other performs artificial respirations in a 30:2 ratio. They alternate every 5 cycles (every 2 minutes).
※ Make sure that the interruption between compressions is less than 10 seconds.
