m  Medi Expo 2018 will be held at EXCO from July 6 to July 8. The event is co-hosted by Daegu Metropolitan City and Gyeongsangbuk-do and is supervised by EXCO, the Daegu Medical Tourism Promotion Institute, the National Development Institute of Korean Medicine, the Taegu Dental Association, and KOTRA. Event sponsors include the Daegu Medical Association, Daegu Korean Medicine Association, Daegu Pharmaceutical Association, and Daegu Nurses Association.

m  Medi Expo 2018 is comprised of five smaller medical expos—Medical & Healthcare Expo Korea, Daegu Medical Tour Expo, Traditional Medicine Expo Korea Daegu, International Dental Exhibition & Scientific Congress, and PharmEXPO—and features various auxiliary events organized by local associations of doctors, dentists, Korean medicine doctors, pharmacists, and nurses.

m  Major events include an export consultation meeting, academic conference, non-academic conference, training refresher for medical personnel, Medical Tourism Night, classes on cultivating Oriental medicine herbs, the Haniplanet Training Academy, and a dental examination booth. There will also be diverse giveaway events held by participating companies.

m  This year, in order to better address the needs and concerns of Korea’s rapidly aging society, there will be several special pavilions on geriatric illnesses (dementia, spondyloarthritis, etc.) that commonly afflict Korea’s elderly population.

The spondyloarthritis pavilion will introduce cutting-edge surgical and non-surgical medical equipment for the treatment of spinal disorders, which are increasingly common among Koreans due to aging and lifestyle changes brought about by modern society. Information on treatment and diagnoses will be provided according to disorder.

The dementia pavilion will be designed as an experience zone introducing the Dementia Support Center (currently operated at a district/provincial level) as the standard model for the Moon Administration’s state program for dementia patients. The pavilion will offer detailed information on the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and management of dementia. There will also be a policy discussion session for dementia-related institutions (health centers, metropolitan dementia centers, senior residential treatment facilities, etc.) and on-site consultations with participating companies.

m  The expo will feature five general hospitals in the Daegu/Gyeongbuk area as well as over 20 specialized hospitals and clinics (plastic surgery, dermatology, orthopedics, neurosurgery, Oriental medicine, etc.). Featured organizations will offer free diagnoses, professional consultations, and other kinds of examinations and hands-on activities.

m  KOTRA also invited over 200 foreign buyers from 26 countries to participate in export and purchase consultation meetings. Thanks to these special invites, this year’s expo is expected to provide domestic companies with even more business opportunities to expand into overseas markets.

m  The expo will be open from 10 am until 6 pm (until 5 pm on July 8). The admission fee is KRW 7,000; visitors who have pre-registered for the event via the expo’s official website (www.mediexpo.co.kr) will be admitted free of charge.

m  Daegu Mayor Kwon Young-jin said of the expo, “It is my hope that Medi Expo 2018 provides each of us an invaluable opportunity to thoughtfully consider the future of the health and medical industry within the context of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.”
