The city signed a business agreement with the Daegu Association of Certified Public Tax Accountants to offer a community tax consultation service.
On August 10, Daegu Metropolitan City and the Daegu Association of Certified Public Tax Accountants (president: Kwon Il-hwan) entered into a business agreement at Daegu City Hall to further develop a “community tax consultation service” as a means of providing substantive assistance to citizens who have no access to tax advisory services.
m Mayor Kwon Young-jin of Daegu Metropolitan City and President Kwon Il-hwan of the Daegu Association of Certified Public Tax Accountants agreed to provide comprehensive support to ensure the efficient operation of the community tax consultation service as a means of giving citizens free access to tax consultations, protecting citizens’ rights, and assisting citizens with all of their tax-related needs.
m The community tax consultation service, the first of its kind in Korea, was launched in 2015 with the active cooperation of the Daegu Association of Certified Public Tax Accountants. Currently, the service has 71 certified tax accountants offering their services as volunteers in 139 counties and districts of Daegu.
m During the second quarter, 1,143 consultations were provided by community tax consultants (968 on national tax and 175 on local tax), up 77.5 percent from the 644 consultations provided in the same period of the previous year, attracting much attention from and the active participation of citizens.
m Anyone who wishes to receive a tax consultation through the service may call, fax, or send an email to one of the tax consultants after getting their contact information from the Daegu City website, county or district community service centers, or promotional materials available at tax counters of county and district offices. For further consultation, citizens may meet with tax consultants at nearby community centers or tax consultant offices.
m Daegu Metropolitan City plans to expand the tax consultation service by strengthening the partnerships between the Daegu Association of Certified Public Tax Accountants and district and county offices. In addition, the city plans to offer consultation services at large, crowded supermarkets and increase the number of tax consultation desks at district and county offices in order to help citizens with a wide range of taxation matters.
m President Kwon Il-hwan of the Daegu Association of Certified Public Tax Accountants said, “We are dedicated to protecting the rights of taxpayers through this community tax consultation service, and will strive to make the service available to as many citizens as possible.”
m Mayor Kwon said, “The community tax consultation service creates opportunities for local tax accountants interested in volunteering to contribute to local communities and provide citizens with professional, customized tax services.”
