The Daegu Community Chest of Korea early this month held the launching ceremony for the “Hope 2011 Sharing Campaign,” which is aimed at raising public awareness of the value of contributing to the efforts of improving the social welfare system.
The event was held with the slogan “Share Love with Neighbors in Need.” The first part of the event, which was held on Dec. 2, at 3 p.m., at the Daegu Bank’s headquarters, had as many as 300 participants, which included the mayor of Daegu, the chairman of the Daegu City Council, heads of major organizations and groups, and staff members. Donations were handed out and an unveiling ceremony for an indoor monument was also held.
The second part of the event called for a change of venue and took the participants to Goseong-dong. The participants delivered coal briquettes to low-income households from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.
With the latest fundraising campaign’s target set at 3.2 billion won, a 2 percent jump from last year’s 3.15 billion won, all donations will be collected through such media firms as KBS, MBC and TBC.
