Daegu Arboretum

The Korean Ministry of Environment recognized this municipal arboretum as a good model of restoring a seriously damaged ecosystem, since from 1986 through 1990 this site had been used as a sanitary landfill. In its efforts to restore this area, the city government constructed botanical gardens that include more than 1,000 species of unique plants. Visitors to the arboretum can enjoy its gardens with giant cactuses, medicinal herbs, wild flowers, and potted plants. Ponds with aquatic life and groves with various kinds of trees are another attraction. In addition, the arboretum offers several trails and has large grassy areas, which are great for having a picnic or just relaxing as well as exploring plants.

This street is considered as one of the most beautiful roads in the City of Daegu, stretching six kilometers between Dongdaegu Station and Dusan 5-street. Big, precious trees stand high in the middle as well as along the both side of this road. Additionally, since many organizations such as the customs office, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Daegu District Court and Daegu Venture Center are situated in this area, Dongdaegu-ro Street is evolving into a center of economics and administration in the city.

Pull-down-walls Zones

Many of the tall cement fences surrounding houses, schools, churches, and hospitals have been pulled down in many parts of the city. As a result, the residents of some major buildings and quite a few individual houses now enjoy nice landscapes with small parks or gardens instead of looking at tall barriers. Samdeok-dong, Jung-gu is the origin of the "Pull-down-walls campaign", a model of open community, which many people come to see from all cities in Korea.
