Minas Gerais, Brazil – since June 21, 1994

Located in Southeastern Brazil, Minas Gerais is the second most populous state with the third highest GDP in Brazil. It is also the second largest exporter and the second largest consumer market in Brazil, and is home to over half of all Brazilian companies. Minas Gerais consists of 854 municipalities, and its capital is Belo Horizonte, the fourth largest city in Brazil. The state’s major industries include healthcare, education, commerce and other services, life science, renewable energy, aerospace engineering, transportation, iron ore, and mining. It has a well-developed agricultural industry as well, with sugar and coffee being its major produce.
